CME Requirement
Each Fellow must undertake CME in accordance with this clause 8 to increase, maintain and develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective and safe patient care in Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine.
Hospital and Committee Meetings (Category 1)
Category one applies to Surgical Fellows only. Providing the total number of CPD points are achieved this should be sufficient for approval.
Annual CPD Commitments
Each Fellow must meet the following minimum hourly requirements [not stated] for each calendar year in each CPD category:
- Category 1 - ten hours
- Category 2 - thirty hours
- Categories 3 & 4 - forty hours
- Category 5 – one event
A diary of surgical or other procedural activity should be kept for inspection by the Council if required.

Note: Trainers are able to claim “Double points” for those categories affected by virtue of their work as trainer.
Category 1 - Patient focused improvements in service delivery
- Specialty Unit Meetings;
- Clinical Outcome Meetings (including bi-annual online Fellowship outcomes meeting).
- Hospital or clinical meetings and focus on improvements in clinical care.
- Meetings reviewing adverse events and instituting action to remedy systemic faults.
- Meetings with hospital administrators that contribute to improved clinical management.
- Activities related to organisation or review of surgical services.
- Participation in annual individual and/or department performance review.
- Hospital committee meetings
Category 2 - Meetings with peers
Category 2 consists of attendance at any meeting involving cosmetic surgical or medical learning accredited by the College. These may include:
- Scientific meetings (e.g., the College Annual meeting or Specialty Societymeetings)
- Courses or workshops that focus on professional practice or non-technical competencies.
- Courses that focus on technical competencies (e.g., hands-on workshops or masterclasses)
- Overseas meetings accredited for CPD by a recognised national body in the country concerned
- Participation in a Masters/Diploma/Certificate course at tertiary institutions
- Participation in College Journal Club
Category 3 - Self-directed educational activities
- Reading cosmetic surgical/medical journals, audio tapes or videos and tapes.
- Arranged visits to other practices with a specialty interest
- Arranged visits to another Fellow’s practice.
- Preparation for and participation in self-assessment tests.
- Acquisition of new skills related to cosmetic surgical/medical practice.
- Other activities approved by the Re-Certification Subcommittee.
Category 4 - Additional Educational Activities
- acting as a referee for journal articles on the subject of Cosmetic Surgery or Cosmetic Medicine (up to 10 hours).
- Publication in a refereed medical journal (up to 40 hours).
- Presentation at an accredited scientific meeting (up to 6 hours).
- Undertaking post-graduate medicine courses related to cosmetic surgical or medical practice (8 hours/day).
- Teaching under-graduates, post-graduates and peers.
- Participation in organised research related to clinical practice.
- Teaching on College courses/workshops (max 30 hours).
- Supervision of surgical trainees (max 15 hours).
- Development of educational materials (max 15 hours).
- Acting as an examiner for the College, AMC, Universities or other recognised educational institutions (max 15 hours).
- Participation in a clinical trial or organised clinical research (max 10 points per annum).
- Creation of information booklet for patient care (10 hours per item, max 30 hours).
- Peer Reviewofreports e.g.medico-legal, clinical etc.
Category 5 - Reflective Practice
One recorded episode of reflective practice per year. Activities recognised as fostering reflective practice may include:
- Surgical or Clinical Attachment with clear learning objectives and self-reflection
- Development of a structured Learning Plan including self-reflection
- Participation in a structured mentoring program
- Patient Feedback Survey including action plan
- Undertaking a structured reflective practice review of a case (appendix 1)
