Information on the College’s committees and their areas of responsibility.

ACCSM Committee Structure Chart

Education and Training Committee (ETC)

The ETC is the central academic body with responsibility for curriculum, assessment, CPD, and education quality assurance. Reports to the BOC.
Supervises delivery and quality of the training program.

  • Composition: Chair (Surgical or Medical Dean), Education Manager, Medical
    Educationalist, preceptor representatives, trainee representative.
  • Functions: Implements curriculum; monitors trainee progression; oversees
    educational quality assurance and innovation.

ETC Committe Terms of Reference

Patient Safety & Public Protection Committee (PSPPC)

The PSPPC provides independent oversight, strategic guidance, and risk mitigation related to patient care, trainee supervision, complaints management, and safety governance.

  • Composition: Chair, clinical Fellows, consumer advocate.
  • Functions: Reviews safety incidents; advises on patient risk; aligns policy with
    national safety standards.

Complaints & Professional Standards Committee (CPSC)

The CPSC provides a fair, transparent, and independent process for the management of complaints, concerns, and allegations involving Fellows, trainees, or members of the College.

  • Composition: Chair, Fellows appointed by council, consumer representative
  • Functions: Investigates complaints against trainees and Fellows; recommends sanctions or remediation; reports outcomes to Council.

CPSC Committe Terms of Reference

Curriculum Advisory Group (CAG)

Standing subcommittee of ETC responsible for curriculum design, alignment with AMC standards and quality improvement.

  • Composition: Educational experts, Fellows, external stakeholders, trainee
    representative.
  • Functions: Recommends curriculum changes; ensures curriculum aligns with AMC
    standards and national health priorities; advises on cultural safety and patientcentred care.

CAG Terms of Reference

Examination Committee (EC)

The EC plays a crucial role in the development and administration of the Cosmetic Surgery Training Program examinations, which include: 

⦁    Cosmetic Medicine multiple-choice question (MCQ) examination 
⦁    Viva voce examination

The Examination Committee is made up of two different groups, convened at differing times according the examination timetable and needs of the ACCSM.

Community and Consumer Advisory Group (CCAG)

The CCAG provides lived experience and community feedback on curriculum, trainee professionalism and policy. Reports to Council
via the PSPPC, makes recommendations to the BOC via ETC.

  • Composition: Consumer advocate, community leaders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait
    Islander representative, Education manager.
  • Functions: Advises on patient-centred care, cultural safety, and public
    communication; participates in curriculum and policy review.

CCAG Committe Terms of Reference

Trainee Committe (TC)

The TC provides structured input into College governance, education, training quality, and wellbeing initiatives, ensuring that trainee voices are embedded in decision-making processes. Liaises directly with Council via the Trainee Representative (Chair of the Trainee Committee).

  • Composition: Trainee Chair, elected trainee representatives across stages, medical
    and surgical tracks.
  • Functions: Provides feedback on training experience; participates in policy review
    and planning; ensures trainee concerns are heard.

TC Committe Terms of Reference

Trainee Support Unit (TSU)

Case management for trainees in difficulty, development of personalised support plans, oversight of wellbeing-related policies (remediation, flexible
training, special consideration). Reports to the ETC.

  • Composition: Education Manager, Medical Educationalist, Welfare Officer
  • Functions: Offers confidential support; facilitates reasonable accommodations;
    coordinates remediation and performance management.

TSU Terms of Reference

Academic and Research Committee (ARC)

Functions to oversee, promote, and support research and academic activity within the College. The Committee provides strategic
leadership for research initiatives and trainee engagement in scholarly activity.

Accreditation Panel Committee (APC)

The APC ensures that all training sites meet the standards of patient safety, cultural safety, clinical governance, and educational quality as
set out in ACCSM’s accreditation policy and procedures. Reports to ETC, liaises with the PSPPC.

Scientific & Organising Committee of Cosmetex (SOCC)

The SOCC functions to plan, deliver, and evaluate the College’s annual scientific meeting, Cosmetex. Reports directly to Council.
